Your puppy should stay on the food we send with but if you choose to switch them to something different mixing the two slowly with help ease then transition on their tummies. A good thing to remember also is the most expensive food isn't the greatest either but please don't go to cheap!
This breed can get some wrinkles on the face, those can be wiped with water wipes. Nails grow extremely fast; I recommend a nail grinder to trim nails. They are not overjoyed by it but when you are consistent, they grow used to the weekly trimming.
We do front nails weekly and back nails bi-weekly. Once your pup’s growth slows down their nails will as well. At that time, you can go to once a month trimmings. It is very important for the dog’s structure, joints and overall health to keep those nails trimmed. A dog walking around all day with long nails is like a person walking around all day inch high heels. YUCK & OUCH…
NO kennels they are not inhumane and YES you should use them. I promise your pup will not hate you for it. In fact, puppies are just like human babies, they too can go down for naps during the day in their safe space, the kennel. Puppies sleep on average 18 hours a day and need the sleep❤️. When you are home be sure to leave the kennel door open and allow your pup to go in and out freely. They should get to know the kennel as their place. If you have small children, make sure they know that the kennel is the dog’s home and if he/she goes in there they are to leave them alone – this is your pup asking for alone time. When kenneling, every dog is different, but one thing is the same…they should never be left in there with nothing to do. They should always have SAFE toys to help them pass the time. Plush toys or toys with squeakers are a NO NO, they can break them open and choke on parts, try a Nyla bone or a heavy rubber toy with frozen peanut butter inside.
Do not use the kennel as punishment, it sends mixed signals, try teaching the place command instead.
PUMPKIN !! If at any time your dog gets an upset stomach give them some 100% organic pureed canned pumpkin for a few days along with their food and you should see vast improvement. This also works for constipation. Probiotics are great to add to their food as well.
Usually as soon as the pup gets done eating, they are looking for a spot to go, if you aren’t paying attention, it will be an accident on your floor. Watch for signs of sniffing, knowing when they will potty and taking them out at those times will teach them your house rules. In your go home puppy pack is a training bell. Place this bell on the door that you will take your puppy out most to use the bathroom. Every time you go out of that door ring the bell. Every time you take your puppy outside, ring the bell with their paw, if they have an accident in the house, do not yell or get frustrated…simply bring them to the bell, ring it with their paw and place on the grass. Dogs are very smart and learn by repetition and smell so this will be fast and painless if you are consistent.
It's always a struggle to know how much to feed. Know this…you will not over feed these pups, but you can underfeed. I am a fan of free feeding once they are potty trained. But while potty training, I recommend feeding at least twice a day, if not 3 times. If you are feeding twice a day, I suggest starting with 1 cup. If he/she finishes without losing interest, add another ¾ cup. You want them to eat until they are full. They will walk away from it when they are not interested. While they are eating, be present and mess with the food and body parts, you don’t ever want them to become territorial over their food. So, reaching your hand in the bowl, petting them, picking them up and loving on them for a second before letting them go back to their food all helps develop your new pup into becoming an amazing dog for you and your family.
